Extended Essay – Final Reflection

Besides refining my researching skills, the EE process has also allowed me to practice organizing my own primary data collection, especially forming suitable questions that will retrieve as much relevant information as possible during my interview with Josh Tetrick. Besides being more analytical than descriptive, another challenge was correctly utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. Fortunately, I figured it out and hence used biology to give context, and instead used geographical concepts as a tool to analyze and discuss findings. My research into lab-grown meat has definitely got me questioning its worthiness. Considering if lab-grown meat completely replaces conventional farmed meat, and despite already establishing its potential low resource consumption, there could be social consequences, including job impacts on farmers and change in ecosystem productivity if cows are not raised. However, that future of lab-grown meat being viewed as ‘normal’ seems far, as many still perceive it as ‘fake’. If demand for lab-grown meat is lacking, it would otherwise be pointless to mass produce it.
