In HS Marimbas, we are able to develop creativity, collaboration, and communication skills through playing the marimbas. At first, I was quite skeptical of this activity but after the first session, I felt that this was a good break from the academics of IB and helped train my creative side. In the first session, we briefly explored the wide variety of uses for the marimbas in all sorts of music and then got to play simple melodies on the marimbas.

In middle school, I was a part of a band where I played the percussion and mallet instruments. So this activity revitalized my interest in music. I felt that I am good at the basic techniques, the rhythm of any piece, and identifying the correct notes to play however, I can improve on the more advanced techniques such as cross gripping. I have improved in the areas of following the rhythm however I can practice chord progression through practice.
