In Innovation R&D, we use a wide variety of technologies and develop creative solutions to improve our lives in a sustainable and technological way. In addition, we get to learn from industry professionals in the fields of technology and design. My group’s project is an underwater camera submarine in order to scout out a path for scuba divers in emergency situations. Our project can go under Goal 3 and Goal 9 of the SDGs. Through this activity, we become aware of how technologies can save lives but also how we can use technology in a sustainable way through sustainable materials and energy sources. This project explores two significant issues, technologies saving lives and sustainability. These are important issues as they have the opportunity to change how people do things and create a more everlasting society. For instance, we plan on using recycled plastics which is more sustainable than new plastics however is less tensile. This will have a positive impact on the environment as we are basically using someone else’s trash to help aid others. I now see the impact that my decisions have on the environment and the broader scope of how I can help others through technology and programming.
