Drama Devised Piece – Rumination

My Reflection on RUMINATION

I think group worked really well together. Throughout the creating process, we worked really well at bouncing ideas off one another and keeping in mind other group members ideas and emotion whilst creating, to make sure we were working at our best and finding the best ideas without hurting anyone’s feelings. We had a respectful disregard towards the unworkable idea and a positive mindset to create the good ideas. Our whole group was really determined and committed to the piece enabling us to produce our best work. We put in a lot of time and effort during the beginning of the devising process and got a really good storyline that we could work off of so that as it got closer to the performance date we weren’t stressed out.

We found it really challenging to start devising, at the beginning of the piece we had a storyline that we could work with but couldn’t find good ideas physically to use. A key learning point was that props are very important during a performance. We learnt this because we started off with a chair as a prop and decided to get rid of it once we did we had a lot more freedom in our movement and was really able to develop and devise more ideas. Later in the process, Iza found the frame and was determined to use it, and once we started working with it, the ideas started rolling easily (help us overcome our devising block). Another key point of learning is the importance of the development of our character throughout the piece. By really developing our character we have a deeper understanding of what your character would and wouldn’t do make it easier to feel where your character should go, what she should say, act, etc.

Overall I am really proud of the piece my group was able to produce in the end. We were able to convey an impactful story to the audience in an emotionally engaging manner because we were performance something that we enjoyed and were truly happy with (also the story was really impactful to us as well).
