My approaches to researching have advanced through this comprehensive process. I have found a variety of sources focusing on professional actors and their experiences in bringing male characters to life; the detail in which led to a deeper understanding on my part of their intricate processes.

My piece was written as more of an exploratory paper at first with a thin argument and hesitant flow. However, after gaining feedback from my supervisor, I was able to create opportunities in the structure to allow for a more engaging argument. This process has allowed me to further understand the place theatre has in questioning societal roles and its immense power to challenge an audience in its conservative ways of thinking about gender. I was enlightened by the importance of the evolution of cross-gender casting in cultures throughout history. This enabled me to form a clearer conclusion of how traits of a character are all that matters to communicate the relevant themes and drive the narrative.
