Reflection 1: Football

This year I am part of the school football team, as I have been for the past four years here at UWC. Football has been a passion of mine for eight years now, both in and outside of school. I have always taken pride in being part of the school team as it allows me to represent UWC by doing something I love. Over the years, football has given me uncountable opportunities to meet new people, travel overseas to compete in tournaments, and build a sense of community with those who share this interest with me. I have made so many friends through playing football and have experienced the rewarding and fulfilling sensation of working in a team. I find that playing football allows me to maintain a balance between my work life and sport/social life, which is essential for the stressful years of high school.

I am aware that the next two years will be extremely work heavy and potentially overwhelming in the way of academics, thus it is vital that I have an effective method of taking care of my mental health. Aside from my close friends and family, I have relied on football to do this for many years. By being a member of the school football team this year, I am hoping to maintain a healthy and calm mindset which will assist me in demonstrating the best of my academic abilities.

This year, my goal is to stay committed to football, despite my expected to be busy schedule. I want to consistently find the time for football despite my work load. To do this, I will need to manage my time efficiently and stay on top of my work schedule. Finding time for all my activities has always been the biggest challenge presented to me by football, however over the years as I get more practise, this becomes more manageable. I don’t only want to stay committed for myself, but for my teammates. As it is a team sport, I want to be reliable for my teammates and coaches and guarantee my full commitment. Being the hobby I am most passionate about, I want to do everything I can do keep playing football.

Learning outcomes that I am aiming to achieve through football:

LO1-Identify their own strengths and develop areas for growth

LO4 – Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences
