CAS – Service: Running hour reflection (end of term 2 reflection)

RunningHour this season has been super rewarding. I now feel adjusted to our weekly runs and routine. As Chair of the service, I am also adjusted and learning how to take care of some of the admin work. I attended a chair workshop where I learned ways in which we can help the group understand why this service is so important, and some of my goals moving forward is implementing these systems of thinking into our service. In terms of service activities, I have been learning more and more from the new people I meet at RunningHour. Some impactful experiences I have had is being able to run with people of different age groups and talk about life experiences and hobbies. I am excited to continue my journey with RunningHour as I learn more about others, and build many more meaningful connections.

Expanding on the opportunity I had to attend a chair workshop. During this workshop we went through different system thinking models we can implement for the future. I hope to implement some of these models and learning during service and teach the future chair of Runninghour ways they can do this. During this season, as a group, we have been dedicated to our weekly runs, and we were also able to hold a session where we collected some admin work. We had a lunchtime session where we figured out what our goals for service would be, and how we would measure this growth by the end of the year.  I hope to implement some of my learning into future service sessions.

As chair, I also had to help in the organisation of our portfolio post which we do each term. I was in charge of gathering all student reflections including my own along with photos, and then I worked with the communications officer to help fix the portfolio page.  I was responsible for setting out reminders, and when students didn’t reciprocate I had to remind them again in order to get the work done. This taught me how to plan, organise, and create a collaborative learning page.  This links to the learning outcome LO3 which is initiating and planning a CAS experience as well as being collaborative, and staying committed to my CAS experience.
