Senator Mocks Co worker Kamala Harris’s Name

A senator is a person who works in the government. In the United States, senators are elected by voters to represent them in a state or federal senate. The fact that David perdue is a senator who got elected by voters makes me feel like there was a huge mistake in the system. David Perdue is currently facing backlash for mocking senator Kamala Harris. It is one thing to mispronounce one’s name the first or possibly second time after introducing two individuals. But to mispronounce and mock a coworker after nearly 4 years of working together is a completely different story.

Not only did he mock Kamala Harris’s name in front of an entire nation, but as well try to cover it up with the excuse of it being a “mispronunciation.” If a senator cant pronounces a coworker’s name after working together for 4 years, I don’t think he should be a senator; he should go back to school.

Because this gained much popularity and is currently an ongoing conversation in the news, there was an uprise to a new hashtag called “My name is.” Many people of colour share the meaning behind their names and share stories of similar experiences that, unfortunately, Kamala Harris had experienced.

Publicity was gained from an advertisement on Facebook that Mr perdue’s campaigning team ran, a photo of his rival, Jon Ossoff’s, a Jewish man. The twist was his nose. The team enlarged his nose, which is a common stereotype that “Jews have big noses.” During world war II, it was learned that a characteristic is that jews noses are shaped like a 6 (large and big). This not only proves that Mr Perdue is disrespectful to those of colour but is also uses disrespectful stereotypes as a joke; Showing he is rude and unprofessional.

Although senator Perdue’s comment was completely wrong, it helped show the world that mocking people of colour is not okay, and ridiculing rivals against something they are born with is completely unacceptable.
