Bedok Peacehaven – Service Updates

Covid-19 Bedok Peacehaven Service Updates

In light of the current covid-19 pandemic, all service visits to the center and meetings have been cancelled for the year. However, prior to the circuit-breaker measures, our service group came up with potential ideas on how to continue the service remotely from school, or even from home, once it is possible and safe for us to do so.

We emailed our service partners with our ideas to continue providing support, and asked for their suggestions/concerns.

Unfortunately, due to the unforeseen changes with the circuit-breaker measures, the organization was not able to follow up on our suggestions (and direct service had been cancelled). However, I will be continuing to do this service for seasons 1 and 2 of 12th grade, so I am keen to see if we can continue to implement these ideas as soon as possible.

The advertisements we planned to make, although were intended to help publicize the opening of the service’s new center, was also to advocate for our partner’s cause; which is to promote inclusivity within our community and remove the age and cultural barriers between generations. I feel that it is important to remember and care for the members of society who are neglected and forgotten by their own families or societies, and continue to care for them physically and mentally to promote healthy lifestyles. Although we were only able to visit the center for a few months this year, it allowed me to gain a new perspective and understanding for the many challenges that the elderly may face that move past just old age. It is that sense of belonging which is very important for individuals of all ages, and the organization has really focused on creating this for their clients. Hopefully, we can continue to provide meaningful service for the center next year.
