Jakarta Street Kids 2019/20

This year I continued my work with the Jakarta Street Kids GC. I feel like the most significant part of my involvement in this service was related to collaboration. We had a large number of new members join our GC this year from all grades in high school. This meant they all had to be not only educated about what the GC does and who we help but also how to take on the roles that the Grade 12s would soon be relinquishing. This meant I had to collaborate with people who I had never spoken to before to ensure the future of the GC was sustainable. We also took a deep look at our products and used critical thinking to determine which product were viable and which we should discard, and required compromise amongst GC members in order to come to a final decision. Additionally, I was also in charge of t-shirt design for the GC which required me to use my creativity to design a pattern that would represent what the GC stands for while also being comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

I also took on a significant role in coordinating our annual event – Swimdonesia. I was in charge of liaising with Mr Hannah, the service department and other GCs to ensure that JSK had done their part and that the event ran smoothly. This was a significant commitment as it required me to meet with other GCs and the Service department outside of normal meeting times but also helped me develop my communication skills. While I was unable to attend Swimdonesia due to other CAS commitments, I was proud of the work I did in the leadup to it to help prepare the group for the event. I am confident that the next grades are sufficiently prepared to continue helping this GC in the future.
