So far in the extended essay process, I have faced various challenges that I have had to overcome. A challenge I primarily faced was forming my extended essay question, as I needed to make it concise and specific enough to explore in detail. This was difficult as I was very interested in exploring a wide range of mental illnesses that arise from social media use in adolescents, but after conducting research prior to my reflective conversation, I realized it was not manageable to be investigating so many mental illnesses caused by the issue and that I had to focus on only one illness. I discussed with my supervisor how to narrow it down whilst keeping the essence of what I wanted to investigate. After narrowing down my question into a manageable topic, I was able to begin my outline. As a result, I was able to conduct more relevant and specific research.
