CAS Portfolio (Project Week)

Project Week required a lot of researching and planning but due to the pandemic (COVID-19) we are unable to attend Project Week, one of the biggest highlights in Grade 11. We started off by choosing 3 different options, after that we narrowed it down to one idea, White water rafting in Nepal (with Paddle Nepal). We did extensive research on this idea (LO3), and were under budget until a month later in which we realised that the flight tickets were increasing by hundreds of dollars. This is when all Nepal trips got cancelled, leaving us with no where to go for Project Week (LO7). That exact month, my group (LO5) started planning yet another trip of white water rafting in India (with Snow Leopards). Everything was planned and surprisingly we were under budget until we got the news that Project Week has been cancelled. This was by far the most devastating thing that could have happened due to the extensive research and planning, but also because of how unique the experience really was. My group was really disappointed but at that point there wasn’t anything that could have been done.

From Project Week planning I have learnt a lot about myself as well as about my friends. Throughout the experience, even though we were not able to go on the actual trip, throughout the planning stages, I learnt that I was able to work well with my group and had acquired many skills as well (LO1). In addition to this, I have realised that I do really enjoy planning and staying organised with tasks like these. This planning has really helped me in other tasks (i.e my IA’s) , and because of this I have always matched my deadlines. Although we undertook many challenges (LO2) it was a wonderful experience overall and helped me learn so much about the whole experience. Even though we were not allowed to go on this trip due to COVID-19, it was for ethical reasons (LO7), and the school was looking out for our safety it was a learning opportunity nonetheless which will be used in the future hopefully to plan out other trips.
