Fry’s Planet World Episode 2

I feel that after watching this episode I really got a bigger understanding of so many of the languages in the worlds. It really shows how the language/dialect of a culture really shows and expresses the values and beliefs of the culture. Something that really surprised me was that the French government are trying to get rid off all the other dialects that are not the original french language. I can really understand why they want to do this, but trying to ban it I don’t feel thats right. Peoples culture and heritage are in that dialect how people express themselves can be that dialect. Maybe they can try to teach the french language more, but trying to ban dialects is really a bad idea in my opinion. Something else that was interesting was that the french have a  group of people that decide if they are going to make a english word for french instead of just adopting the english word into how they speak. For example there isn’t a french word for email or walkman. I really feel that the french government is really excluding the dialects like Occitane just for there to be one national language. Also in the beginning of the video they talked about how the accents vary so much just in one area and also how when somebody speaks in the more posh queens accent they seem to sound more civilised or more smarter. How sometimes because of accent people misjudge. Like for example in the callcenter when there is a problem and they want to speak to the manager they change their accent to the more posh, and normally people do listen better to people with the posh accent.
