I have chosen to compare the literature text about the relationship of Gridelda with her husband in Top Girls, with the non-literature text, Saint Hoax’s campaign about domestic abuse – Happy Never After. The reason why I chose the two to compare because I saw a very interesting and juxtaposing approach to the problem of domestic abuse. Both texts show the presence of domestic abuse, however, has a very different approach to it. Top Girl was set in the past time when domestic abuse was seen as the norm; some may even see it as a way of showing ‘love’, ‘obedience’ and ‘testing of loyalty”. Meanwhile, the recent campaign is a campaign tackling domestic abuse, encouraging victims to speak up. The contrasting approaches show how society has improved with time and how with time, the cultural and social belief and value of people has changed.
