What have you learned while creating your icebergs?
I learned that a lot of my identity was not shown to the world and that a lot of it was very deep. I found that things on my identity that were surface level were qualities about myself that anyone could see physically and the ones that were under the sea were ones that were harder to identify. By doing the exercise, I also was reminded of the many different aspects of my identity that make me, me. I had always associated my identity with things simply like my culture, religions, languages I speak but now realise that there are many values and beliefs that define me much more than those.
What do you wish your teachers and peers knew about you?
I wish my teachers and peers knew that I am more than I present myself to be and that there are many qualities of myself that I value strongly like my work ethic and loyalty that I find harder to show people as it is part of my shadow identity. I am quite soft-spoken and quiet and, so I often find it difficult to completely express my identity; especially my cultural identity as I find it slightly complicated to explain due to my multi-cultural background. However, I would like to try my best this year to better express myself and get my teachers and peers in this class get to know me.
Very valid thoughts and feelings, Minna! Thank you for sharing these with me and I hope that as time goes on, you can enjoy opening up to your peers and to me.
