LO – 1

I have previous experience mentoring the middle school students in the MS Go Kart club. Through the MS Go Kart Club I learnt that it was better to take a step back and let the students learn by themselves, and only step in when they were doing something dangerous or seriously needed guidance. And before I started my first session of the Young Engineers club I knew that I couldn’t take the same approach for the junior schoolers. Junior schoolers have less knowledge on the purpose of tools and the correct ways to use them. They are more likely to hurt themselves and others. I made sure to go to each group and do a briefing on the purpose of the allen keys and spanners/wrench. I struggled to keep up with the energy of the junior schoolers at times.

+Although I had somewhat expected it, I was surprised by the lack of girls in the activity. There were at most, 2 girls. Out of 10~15 students.
