Art Club initial reflection

LO 1 Identifying own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I have joined the art club for a season now, the art club gives me a chance to relax from the school work and actually take time for something I love and passionate about. Every Tuesday afternoon, I will be in the art classroom, pick up brushes and pigments and begin creating.

For now, I have finished an acrylic painting of daisies. I mixed blue with some white and red to paint the background. Then I used blue, dark red, light blue and yellow to paint the bottom as the grassland. Because daisies are in white color, so I have to paint the base color under the petals so daisies can stand out from the background. I mixed a lot of white with a little blue and red to be the base color of the flowers and I used white to draw the petals on top of the base color. The last step is to add some yellow and orange to draw the pollen.

After I finished it, I asked for some feedback from my grandma who loves Chinese painting, she suggested me to add shade and different tone of the color to make the painting more stereoscopic and more realistic. I accepted her suggestion and after two sessions of adding shades fixing the details, I finally finished it.

Even though there are still a lots that I can still improve on, but I feel proud of myself after all. During the creation, I practiced my basic drawing skills such as the mixture of colors, the way to draw the outline and the way to estimate the overall structure and position of the painting. Also, I developed some new skills like adding shade and fixing details for the painting.

The art club meets the learning outcomes of LO1 and LO2 which are Students are able to see themselves as an individual with various skills and abilities, some more developed than others and newly acquired or developed skills may be shown through experiences that the student has not previously undertaken or through increased expertise in an established area. I think I met these two learning outcomes to some extent. For instance, I believe I am being more multi-skilled by joining the art club, I am not just practicing my existing skills of drawing, I am also developing the new ones. Now I successfully reach the fundamental level of adding shade to the drawing and mixing the right colors, and I will improve these and develop more skills in the future.
