Art club interim reflection

LO 1 Identifying own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

In grade 12 I decided to continue joining the Art Club because of the enjoyable experiences that I had last year. I have started a new drawing of a landscape. When brainstorming my next drawing, I just realized how much I love nature and the beauty of the different landscapes. As the drawing required, I learned how to plan the composition of the overall picture beforehand. It is important because the drawing will not look good if the objects are too close or too far from each other, it is important to have a focusing object when drawing.   At first, I find it difficult to draw the grass on the bottom, it turned out that all grass have equal height and width. Hence, I have to repaint the bottom bit and started to plan the composition of grass, some taller, some shorter, some thinner, some thicker. I also use different tones of green to make the drawing more vividly. Even though there is still room for improvement,  but I am satisfied with the final outcome. I learned important techniques from this experience and I feel enjoyable when I can spend time on things that I like and feel restful.

Chinese Chat Final Reflection

LO 3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

LO 4 Show commitment to and perseverance in your CAS experiences

After 2 months of joining Chinese Chat, I think I have learned a lot from this experience.  First, it is a brand new experience for me to teach someone as a teacher to plan each session and work with the mentees. I learned from previous sessions and trying to make it better each time. During Chinese Chat, we usually teach middle school students new Chinese characters and make a sentence of it, after a few sessions, I realized that having Chinese conversation with them can also help them to understand phrases or words in context while practicing their speaking skills. I also found teaching interesting, so I had never missed a session. Besides learning new skills in Chinese Chat, I developed some friendships as well. I think we are such a lovely community in which we call collaborate and interact nicely.  All in all, I think I have met learning outcomes 3 and 4 during this experiment and I believe it is something that I am going to continue on in the future.

Final reflection for Art club

LO 1 Identifying own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

To reflect on my process of 2 seasons of the Art club, I think I found my personal strengths and limitations on the process and I tried my best to improve my limitations and strengthen my strengths.  I finished 2 artworks during 2 seasons time. When I am drawing my first artwork, I found that it was hard for me to get the right color when mixing basic colors together. I also find it hard to add texture to the artwork in order to make it look real and appealing. I tried to figure out the light and shadows of the drawings but I always fall to present it on my work. I think that is because of the lack of experience of drawing and color mixing. During the process, I asked the art teacher a lot regarding the color mixing and the different position of objects on the canvas and I got a lot of help from him. When I am drawing my second drawing, I can feel my improvements in comparison to the first drawing. I had some improvements in color mixing and showing the light and shadows of the objects, however, I still find difficulties when drawing them. For my second drawing, I took a short time to mix the demanded color for the background which I believe is an improvement, I also tried to add a different tone to the color in order to make the flowers more vivid. However, I think the color of the flower was a bit dark.

All in all, I enjoyed my experience in the Art club, I think I learned a lot from that. I think that it was great to take sometime off the week to be creative and do something I am passionate about.  I recognized my strengths and limitations and hence I made some improvements to those. Even though my skills are not yet reached the demand level, but I believe I will continue improving with more practice.

Art Club initial reflection

LO 1 Identifying own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I have joined the art club for a season now, the art club gives me a chance to relax from the school work and actually take time for something I love and passionate about. Every Tuesday afternoon, I will be in the art classroom, pick up brushes and pigments and begin creating.

For now, I have finished an acrylic painting of daisies. I mixed blue with some white and red to paint the background. Then I used blue, dark red, light blue and yellow to paint the bottom as the grassland. Because daisies are in white color, so I have to paint the base color under the petals so daisies can stand out from the background. I mixed a lot of white with a little blue and red to be the base color of the flowers and I used white to draw the petals on top of the base color. The last step is to add some yellow and orange to draw the pollen.

After I finished it, I asked for some feedback from my grandma who loves Chinese painting, she suggested me to add shade and different tone of the color to make the painting more stereoscopic and more realistic. I accepted her suggestion and after two sessions of adding shades fixing the details, I finally finished it.

Even though there are still a lots that I can still improve on, but I feel proud of myself after all. During the creation, I practiced my basic drawing skills such as the mixture of colors, the way to draw the outline and the way to estimate the overall structure and position of the painting. Also, I developed some new skills like adding shade and fixing details for the painting.

The art club meets the learning outcomes of LO1 and LO2 which are Students are able to see themselves as an individual with various skills and abilities, some more developed than others and newly acquired or developed skills may be shown through experiences that the student has not previously undertaken or through increased expertise in an established area. I think I met these two learning outcomes to some extent. For instance, I believe I am being more multi-skilled by joining the art club, I am not just practicing my existing skills of drawing, I am also developing the new ones. Now I successfully reach the fundamental level of adding shade to the drawing and mixing the right colors, and I will improve these and develop more skills in the future.

Experience in art studio

I join the art studio for season 1 and 2. The art studio meets the learning outcomes of LO1 and LO5.

LO1:  identifying own strength and develop areas for personal growth and demonstrate the skills

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

For the art studio, we meet every Tuesday for 1.5 hours with a group of students with the same passion for art. We can create anything we want in art, there are no limitations, just grab what you need and begin creating!

My purpose to joining this club is I have a passion for art, but I do not choose any art subjects for my IB package, so I think joining the art club is a great opportunity for me to spend some time to do what I am interested in and develop my art skills without spending extra time outside of the school. Also, I like the environment in the art club where a group of students are all focusing on creating their own artwork and we discuss and give feedback to each other. It helps with my collaborative skills as well.

I am looking forward to strengthening my art skills and learning to collaborate with other members of the group because these will benefit me in the long term.
