During this session, we had an engaging meeting with a woman-led social enterprise called LUUNA based in Hong Kong. They had initially reached out to us about collaborating to improve menstrual awareness, health, and accessibility within our school community. We found that their goals and message align with our aims and thought it would be interesting to see what they have to offer to our community. We had scheduled a meeting with their Community and Programme Manager, Jayme.
Through this meeting, we learned that LUUNA could help us with a project we had been working on previously – installing free pad dispensers in bathrooms. We explained our idea to them and expressed our concerns about people taking more products than they need and how we would restock these dispensers. Jayme was able to address our concerns with one of the products LUUNA produces. A 3D-printed pad dispenser would allow limited usage and consumption of pads that they would provide. LUUNA has a manufacturing unit in Singapore which would allow them to produce all the organic cotton pads and tampons for our school efficiently. Along with that, the dispenser that they would provide would be 3D-printed to ensure minimum waste.
We are currently in the process of collecting data and information to send to LUUNA so they can start calculating how many dispensers we would need and how often they might need to be restocked. We are also looking through the logistics of how many we would be able to install in the first year of working with them. We are very excited to collaborate with LUUNA and are very glad that our goals and projects aligned well.
