Mentor Conversation Reflection 2021

During my conversation with Ms. Patel, we discussed my past goals from our conversation in grade 9. I wanted to pursue my passions and work towards becoming more proficient in them. I think that when looking back, I can see how I have made significant progress in that area. Pursuing my passion for DT, I worked extremely hard to make my major project and even a couple of others over the summer. In the end, I think the reason I was able to persevere through each problem I was because of the amount of thought I put into the project. Furthermore, the production has helped develop skills in not only communication but also collaboration. As the play this year was student-led, there was much more of an opportunity to contribute to the devising process. Last year having participated in the heart of robin hood I had been much more focused on myself as an actor, but this year it went beyond just myself. By contributing to the devising we were responsible for the entire play.

A new activity I joined this year was FRC (First Robotics Club). The first robotics competition is an international competition in which thousands of teams worldwide compete. With this year being the first for our club, we had to starts from scratch, organizing our team and working towards raising funds. Because of my commitment to the club, I was selected to be the co-captain of construction, working towards ordering parts, designing, and building the robot. Having had no experience in this area before it was a challenge at first. We managed to make significant progress this year and at the moment we are in the process of building our robot. The leadership role I have has given me a lot of responsibility and insight into what it takes to lead. At the moment although we are still in the process of building the robot, I’m already thinking about what improvements can be made to our methods next year.
