Personal Statement (g10)

2020 has been a wild ride. I never expected that we would start using remote learning, and definitely didn’t expect the coronavirus situation. It was a very new experience, to say the least. However, in the times of lockdown, I think I learnt a lot. I got more free time to do things I love, find things I love. I got used accompanying myself and finding happiness on my own. I used technology to stay connected with my friends, and accepted “online school” as a daily part of my life. I think this lockdown is a good practice for our adaptability. It tested our ability to deal with restlessness, anxiety, all kinds of emotions that appear when we are confined at home for a very long time. For me, motivation of many things have been lost over this long lockdown. Motivation for schoolwork is almost close to zero every once in a while in this lockdown, where I find myself uninterested in and tired of projects or homework. With iGCSE exams cancelled, it felt like lots of things we were doing in school were pointless- like we were having class just for the sake of having class. However, school was still school, and in a way, it helped give me a schedule and a sense of routine. It helped me avoid a lazy and unproductive lifestyle for the rest of tenth grade. Whether it was because I simply needed a break, or because I was genuinely interested in what I was doing, I find that, in the end, I seem to always find my motivation again. As surprising as it may be, I think have gotten used to Remote Learning. And I hope we can still finish off the school year with a flourish.
