Dystopia

Describe what a “dystopian world” means.

A dystopian world is the opposite of a utopian world. It is an imaginary society that is unpleasant and frightening. Usually an oppressive society that is caused by humans’ flawed natures.

Consider why writers might use these worlds in their fiction.

To convey a deep meaning and warn people about a future that is plausible if we do certain things. To satirize and point out irony in our society with an extreme dystopian world where there are features of the real world.

What have you read or watched that could be classified as dystopian?

The Hunger Games, Divergent, Fahrenheit 451, Ready Player One, Lord of the Flies
