Fitness and Zumba with Special Olympics Service Initial Reflection

This is my first reflection for Fitness and Zumba with the Special Olympics Service. This is my second year with the service, I choose to do it again this year since I feel that it is a great service in which I, along with my service peers, have the opportunity to interact with people with disabilities (PWDs) within our community through physical activity. This service is a great opportunity to tackle the issue of inclusion of PWDs within Singapore, which is what the main focus of the first few weeks was. We did research into our topic to understand the issue with inclusion, set goals and targets whilst introducing what each session with the athletes will be like, considering everything is virtual due to COVID-19. We spoke of all the dos and don’ts, and how our service is meant to be a fun and energetic activity that the athletes do every week. Since I had been in the service for a year, I was responsible for introducing what we do and what our mission is to the newer members of the service. Also Our service teacher Mr Hannah, presented us with a list of 3 leadership roles that our service needs: a chair, a communications officer and a logistics officer. I am going to apply for chair as I believe that I can lead our service to achieve our goal despite the difficult circumstances.
