The focus was about how women are portrayed as very dependant on men throughout history and also how men just think of women as objects that have a few uses. This implies oral sex and that he thinks that is one of the few uses that they have. Also, how the women is on her knees in the cartoon which could imply oral sex but could also represent begging and asking for help as the woman is completely reliant on the man and she would do anything for him. The second general use that people think women have is that they are good as housewives to work in the kitchen etc. These ideas are also shown in Top Girls where Lady Nijo gave her life to the emperor and did everything that he wanted of her. Even though she didn’t like it, it was her life she had done it ever since she was a little kid so there wasn’t much that she good do. Which contrasts very much to Isabella Bird who is very independent and does physical work as men and she represents the more independent and modern lifestyle. Where she is doing jobs that are associated more with men than they are with women. This Juxtaposition highlights the concept of the power difference in men and women.
