In Charlie Chan Hock Chye, Sonny Liew wrote the book mainly based on historical events. History created by the key persons in the events and the different type of power one own, enable them to determine what is happening and what is going to come next.

I think the inclusion of fictional characters worked really well in his artwork as it tells the stories of past Singapore allowed us to mask with the characters, and have a better and deeper understanding of the situations. Charlie Chan uses different characters such as the roach man, robot, and animals to represent a group of people or an individual to tell stories.
