Growing up in a single-parent family in the rural part of Ireland and struggling to live her life normally like the other kids in her neighborhood. Waking up in the morning, having to worry about if there is food to eat for the day, support each other financially.

I have met my speaker quite a long time ago when I first joined the school, she was my grade, six mentor teacher. In my first impression of her, was a very friendly and easy approachable teacher back then. However I never got to know about her family background but today, having to hear about her growing up experience in rural Ireland really had shocked me. She has been in many ups and downs throughout her childhood.

Life was just fine when her dad passed away when she turned four, everything went downhill after one event that happened. Simply living became a difficult thing to do. She and her mother were foster cared in her aunt and uncle’s house however they did not receive any financial support from them. For survival, the speaker’s mother sold the speaker’s father’s business and their own house to make money for her school fees. The speaker’s mom had very strong love against her, she was willing to work twelve hours a day just wanting to give her(the speaker) a regular, normal life like the other children in the neighborhood.
