LIT TEXTS REFLECTION

So far we have studied a variety of literary texts including: “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro, a range of Carol Ann Duffy poems, and a range of Bob Dylan songs. I have found it interesting looking at different styles of texts, a novel, poems, songs because I feel that it allows me to develop my analytical skills more as well as learn what style of texts appeal most to me when analysing. I really enjoyed the majority of the Carol Ann Duffy poems because most of them seemed to illustrate her themes and message quite obviously. However, I didn’t enjoy the Bob Dylan texts as much because I felt that for a lot of his work we were just guessing the meaning, and from the interviews we watched of him, he didn’t even seem to care very much about how his work was read. This made it challenging for me to properly immerse myself in Bob Dylan because of my lack of interest I think. I found Never Let Me Go a nice novel to analyse and link to global issues because I enjoyed reading the book and found it relatable so it was easier to analyse. I think that was one of the issues with Bob Dylan for me, I didn’t find his work very relatable which made it more challenging to have my own opinion on it. I enjoy analysing poems like Duffy’s in detail because it’s like you’re trying to solve a puzzle and her work was quite organised which made it easier. Overall I have found the literary texts which we have looked at so far relatively interesting and found that they have helped me in developing my skills, which the exception of a few texts.
