Maths and Me

 

1 Arjun Anand, GCSE
2 Although I used to really enjoy math back in India (up to grade 8), I found that at UWC, the increased focus on graphs and stuff that I generally considered weird or new made it very difficult to keep up with my class in those spheres. Although it took me some time, I did understand the fundamentals soon  enough, but I didn’t really put a 100% into my work in maths. I do feel bad about it, but i hope I can rectify it this year. I didn’t exactly have the best time studying math last year, so hopefully I can make up for it in the IB.
3 Personally, I prefer to learn the base of my studies from my teacher and then take it from there, taking help when I get stuck somewhere along, but usually to go through with working on it independently.
4 What do you do when you are “stuck” in mathematics? 

I usually spend an hour or two on something confusing, maybe sleep on it, and then ask a teacher or friend for help later on.

5 Although it’s sometimes on-off, I can usually concentrate on problems and develop a strong interest in solving some things. I do consider myself open minded and reflective, if i had to choose any of these. 

Definitely need to work on my collaborative skills and my levels of organisation and responsibility, especially while remote.

6 I do struggle with some of the more complex graph related questions, and I may need some external assistance at times. I also like to listen to music while working, but it’s not in a form of disrespect.
