How my project was successful/not successful

My project was successful in terms of choosing the topic, some parts of the process and the final product. In terms of successes, I was able to gain more knowledge and informations for the topic that I was interested in. I got to produce a fairly good  ebook with the informations from my research. Also, I think it was successful because I was able to connect the topic with my personal experience that I had when I was small. I could even add my medical certificate of my echo examination of my heart. In addition, I was able to gain useful skills that I can apply in IB course. I think it was unsuccessful in terms of making the information more reliable with a lot of websites that proves it.

What have I learned through this whole process?

I was able to learnt learnt variety of skills through the research.

science skills :

  • Understanding the mechanism and structure of the heart
  • Understanding how the technologies are useful
  • Understanding how to use the devices and how to read the data from it (not professionally good, however, was able to read and gain knowledge about it)

personal skills:

  • researching skills – I am particularly bad in finding informations online. However, by researching about all the needs to know questions that I have thought of, I got more efficient and confident in researching a certain topic that I want to know about.
  • Source analysis – This was not my first time doing source analysis, however, I did not learn deeply as I did in this project which allowed me to consider more about the reliability in many perspectives.
  • APA format citation (useful in IB) – I struggled to create a APA formatted citations since I have never used it before. I installed the citation generator which I can use next year in IB.
  • Organization skills – I improved on my Organization skills since I had less time than I hoped I had to complete the project. I organised my time a lot during the project period. Also, I had to organise all the informations that I had with was either in a different document or on notebook.
  • Planning skills – In terms of planning, this project needed a lot of planning. It was tough to decide my research question and to decide the detailed informations to research about. Also, I think I planned the time well. I made a brief timeline and planned what to finish by when.

What impact might the results of my project have on other people/the wider world?

I think it will give more knowledge about the heart. Also, many people will be able to recognise a heart issue which is called Atrial Septal Defect. In terms of the knowledge of the heart, I explained the structure, circulatory system, the mechanism of how the heart work. In terms of ASD, I have explained the cause, symptoms and effect that it might have on people. It is really important to know about heart because human can not live without it since it is the core organs that help the oxygen to go around the body. Also, it is important to rise awareness of ASD because it is not well known and many children have it when they are young. Late diagnosis might cause serious affect, so it is important to know the correct information about the heart issue. Also, it is usually 100% curable disease, so it is important to know the heart issue and not panic when people or their children have it in the future.

What I would have done to improve my work?

I have made three different final product to see which one is more effective than others. After deciding to make the product in a ebook form and finish making them, I asked my parents who does not have much knowledge about the topic to see if they understand what I am talking about. Also, I asked my friends to proof read it to see if the are anything that I can improve on. This allowed me to be more specific in my explanation.

What I’d do to develop the project in the future?

I think I would improve on the layout if the information because it is too squashed at the moment. I edited before submitting them, however, I feel like there might have been better ways to organise the informations. Also, I feel like I had a lack of explanation in some of the sections. For instance, for the devices used, I could explain in details on how to read the datas produced by them. Furthermore, I think it could have been better if I was able to research more than 5 different websites to strengthen my idea. I got to research about 3 websites for one idea, however, I think it is not enough.

Science 2 home work #1

What is respiration?

Respiration is a process that all living things carry out to produce ATP (molecule of energy) by breaking down nutrients such as glucose. There are two different types of respiration which are Aerobic respiration and Anaerobic respiration.

Why does it exists?

It exists because our body needs a lot of energy to function our body and also to move our body physically. The ATP which is produced via respiration is used to supply the metabolic functions.

How cells carry out respiration?

For Aerobic respiration, they combine Oxygen and Glucose and makes Water, Carbon dioxide and ATP.

For Anaerobic respiration, they use only glucose to make ATP and lactic acid (toxic substance).

Why did that sugar bomb have to do with it?

Respiration requires glucose which is a type of sugar.
