How Much of a Priority Do You Make Sleep?

“You may feel as if there just isn’t enough time in the day to get a good night’s sleep. To get everything done that you need and want to do, you end up going to bed too late and then waking up too early. Or you may think sleep is something you don’t mess around with, and no matter what, you make sure to get your eight hours or more every night.”

Why would you want to spend more than 1/3 of your life sleeping, when insted we can spend time doing something productive and exciting? Getting enough sleep and ensuring good quality sleep is a key to maintaining good physical and mental health. So before committing to getting up early for the gym each day, or starting your next diet, make sure sleep figures in your plans for the coming year. This time of the year, many of us are making new year’s resolutions.

Getting good quality sleep is just as important as getting enough sleep. Too often, I’m seeing people in my practice who haven’t been feeling well for years, and have been suffering from a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea or other medical disorders that can impact on sleep that haven’t been diagnosed.

“Sleep is essential for forming and consolidating memories and that it plays a central role in the formation of new neuronal connections and the pruning of old ones.”
