Here is the sestina I wrote for Literature last week. A sestina is a poem with 6 stanzas of 6 lines each, followed by an envoi for 3 lines. A sestina is special as the last word of each line is repeated between stanzas following a specific pattern. I really enjoyed writing this poem, I wrote it based on Dyson, both the company and the person, and the frustration felt when not being able to come up with a creative idea for a project. I actually started writing this poem when I was working on my Design Technology project, so I guess the frustration was real.
I find the structure of sestinas really interesting, I believe I did not follow a strict version as one of the styles of sestinas require the first letter of the last word of each sentence to spell out a significant word, however, it was thought-provoking, following a set structure and being willing to change when things didn’t work out. Working with form is tricky, but it is a fun creative way to experiment with work that you have previously analyzed.
