Reflection – Service

There are ethical considerations that have to be taken into account when interacting with people with intellectual disability. Through interacting with the clients in the service, the considerations of the needs of the patient and handling the relationship with them was important. There were times when it was difficult for them to manage their emotions, meaning we were not capable to keep control of them during the activities.

From these experiences, I have learned the importance of ethical considerations when interacting with people with different ability. Even with he challenged, I enjoyed learning about them and the skills in order to safely interact and build connections.

Reflection – Service

From being involved in the service, I learned about the issue of stereotypes on “disabled” people. Even though I did not have much understanding of how people in the society felt about interacting with the people having the different ability from us, but after joining the activity, the clients had told us on the usual misconceptions people have on them. For example, people had the understanding that they are not able to communicate, or could be dangerous for them to be doing activities with us.

The spreading of awareness through our activity and portfolio construction allowed us to engage deeply with the issue and interact with the local community.
