Initial Pre-season Tennis Reflection #1 (Activities)

Tennis is one of the greatest passions in my life. I have been playing the beautiful game since the age of 14. I play tennis as a way to stay competitive as well as to stay fit and active. Tennis is a difficult game that requires immense amounts of stamina, strength, and endurance. Recently as I entered grade eleven, I signed up for pre-season tennis to help me develop my overall game in tennis. Pre-season tennis is a school activity aimed at improving one’s ability to do tennis. The sessions mainly consist of forehand and backhand drills along with single and double matchplay.  There are two sessions per week that take place on Monday and Friday. This week, we worked on forehand and backhand drills that are specifically aimed to place the ball in the deep corner of the courts, as those are the more difficult balls to receive. We were fed five balls each consecutively at a fast pace and I was expected to place the balls perfectly where I am meant to. After doing this drill, I learned my stroke for the backhand needs to improve, instead of starting from the back, I am meant to place the racquet on the side as this is a more advanced and faster preparation technique as the ball approach you. My games were decent, I won some and lost some. Something I am conscious that I need improve is my consistency and not just blindly hitting the ball at full power. Improving my accuracy and consistency will make me a better player as it helps me maintain my rally with my opponent. And this is how the first week of pre-season tennis sessions went for me.
