Student Reflection: Gigi Pesch

In the service, we read books to children through zoom. Due to the current Covid-19 situation, we had to read to them through zoom instead of face to face because we couldn’t leave the campus and they couldn’t leave their school either. Before we read to the children we had to plan so we where prepared. In the planning stage, we looked at the book we were going to read to them and thought about how we could make it fun and interactive for the children. We decided to print out photos of the animals that were involved in the book so the children could visually see what was happening. Another thing we had to decide was how we could get the children involved. We decided that the best way would be to ask them questions about the book and ask them about the topic they where learning about which was animals. I think that there were some challenges that we faced during the planning stage. We didn’t have much time to plan as we only had one service session which is an hour and a half. We had to use time management skills and get everything done that needed to be done so we were prepared for the next session where we read to the children.
