Attempting to Make a Positive Difference – What we do at PCF

The mission statement of PCF Spakletots pre-school is as follows:

“To enhance the well-being of the community, by providing quality educational services at affordable cost, as well as through welfare and community services.”

Our group believes strongly in the applicability of arts and crafts in learning – able to foster creative and critical thinking skills that are vital in a number of academic subjects. We also believe in the idea that any form of learning is greatly enhanced via social interactions with individuals who hold different perspectives to you. Hence, one of our primary goals is to be able to come up with unique arts and crafts related activities for the PCF kids on a weekly basis – activities that will allow frequent interaction between us and the kids (as opposed to something like a coloring activity, which doesn’t actively involve both parties).

The various activities we plan, and the thinking that goes into planning them, can all be found in our planning document. Furthermore, photos of the activities we conduct can be found in the various reflections posted by members of our group.

Furthermore, we strive to enhance the well-being of individuals within the community by raising awareness about the income equality within Singapore, and the obstacles that individuals with lower income face in this country. This comes in various forms, whether it be through the internet (i.e. our PCF portfolio), or ensuring that our own group stays up to date (constant investigation and research).

A more detailed explanation of our goals can be found on their website.
