Medusa by Carol Ann Duffy

The poem uses the original story of greek gods, Medusa in order to guide the reader. The reader is able to get a bit of context behind her emotions- eg. Medusa was raped by a greek god. We can also see her emotions, which is hostile, kind of seeks revenge, hurt from betrayal.

Also, the poem evokes sympathy towards Medusa, who is known to be somewhat of a villain.

Meaning behind poem- she loses confidence, losing her self in jealousy and suspicion, as she suspects her husband’s betrayal (cheating)

ESCALATION

The poem uses escalation. Raising tension, and sustaining our attention. It also prepares the audience and shows Medusa’s extents of anger. She doesn’t have her feeling under control, as it builds up.
