The Final reflection- Ethiopia

Posted on

There was a lot of anxiety, nervousness, excitement for the last show. Everything was going to come to an end. I  actually understood why is there so much joy in learning about different culture. I was so excited to see and learn about the different nation and their national dance and costume. It was so overwhelming. I never knew about Hawai, Ghana, Jamaica dance forms and culture. It was amazing to see that.

My experience of learning about Ethiopian dance form was coming to end. This was the last time I was going to wear the costume, dress up like an Ethiopian, dance like an Ethiopian. The feeling when you stand backstage is kind of weird and incomparable.  Over the past weeks, this had become a part of my life, my identity. I had to give my best and make sure that this culture is represented the best because it’s now mine

The thought that a person from a different culture cannot represent a different was worrying me initially but then as time passed I realized that it doesn’t matter what more matter is with which intention are you doing. I also think the person from that same culture might have an understanding of the culture and be more passionate about to represent it but the person from a different culture would have the interest, energy, and excitement to give their best to represent the nation.

The highlight if the show for me was when each and every culture came together to perform the finale. The different costumes, the different colour representing a different part of the world at one place was like the celebration of the human race and its rich diversity. I thoroughly enjoyed my time to share the stage with so many people.

Culturama 2018 has been one of the most important highlights of the UWC life. I learnt a lot and made me more acceptance towards each other.
