Saint Hoax Campaign

  1. Many issues are represented in Saint Hoax’s campaign ‘making America misogynistic again’, specifically values around male and female identity, relating it to a political world and context. Hoax hones in on Donald Trump, the ex-president of the United States, and uses vintage adverts to represent his personal ideals and beliefs. Trump is known to have very misogynistic beliefs and therefore hoax chose to centralize his work around Trump and some of the questionable sexist comments he has made to women.
  2. His print style centralizes on using vintage adverts from the past and reusing them, paired with a quote from Donald Trump that has degraded or demeaned women in some way. The caption from Trump relates to the image and explains it as well. The images from the original adverts are often hypersexualized and portray women in a manner that makes them seem subordinate to men, or the adverts tend to objectify women. Hoax keeps the original imagery used in the artwork and compares and captions them alongside Trump’s quotes. This represents how the values presented in the 1950s and ’60s have not changed and people in powerful positions are showcasing negative values that harm our society.
  3. Hoax’s campaign relates to The Worlds Wife by Carol Ann Duffy as they both centralize on the idea of women’s identity. Hoax approaches the topic by exploring the issues of verbal harassment and real-life quotes. Duffy explores the topic by using myths and fantasy stories and explore different issues regarding women’s identity, including sexuality, relationships, and many more ideas.
