PROJECT WEEK SECOND REFLECTION

We have been looking more at the hiking providers in Taiwan and the cost as well of the trips in comparison to our $1000 budget. It seems that although the school have referred us to the companies which we have looked at, they would all result in us going over budget. However, we did email the company to check if there would be any discount for us being a group of six, or just us coming from UWC. They told us that they could give us a discounted price but only if we joined up with another group of six who also planned to use the same providers to go hiking in Taiwan. This was something that we as a group had to consider because it was challenging thinking about how we were already having to get to know the members of our own group, and now we would have to go on a week long trip with another six people who we weren’t too familiar with. It was also challenging because some members of our group were fine with the idea of going with the other group, however others didn’t seem as on board with the idea. In the end we decided as a group to go on the trip with the other group because we were told that we could stay somewhat separate while still getting the discounted price. It was frustrating that we still needed to request for a budget extension of $200 because the providers still charged such a high price. I found that like I anticipated, I ended up planning most of the itinerary for my group as I seemed to be the one who was willing to do so. I didn’t mind this because like I mentioned in my previous reflection, I enjoy knowing what’s happening and being a leader so to say. It was a bit difficult when our original plan didn’t work out, but we compromised and came to the conclusion that Taiwan was the place we really wanted to go to, so if that meant having to go with another group of six then so be it. I was the main point of contact with the activity provider in Taiwan and it was difficult sometimes to communicate because sometimes things that I would ask in emails wouldn’t be answered or I would forget to reply or vice versa. Overall, I’m happy with how our trip is looking so far and I think we are starting to come together as a group and all get excited about the trip.
