¿Words? ¿Stories?

Stories. What are stories and what make them? Stories are but accounts of a real or imaginary chain of events. Every story has its own distinct and unique tale to tell. Some stories can commune their tales in just a single word, and others can take more than a million.

When I was presented with the challenge to write 6-word stories. I was lost at first. After all, how could it be possible to communicate everything I wanted to, in just 6 words? But aren’t stories what the reader makes them to be? After all, is it not that, ‘No two persons ever read the same book’(By: Edmund Wilson). After reading the short story by Maggie O’Farrell, I was inspired and better understood the art of such stories.

“Served the pie,

watched him die.”

-Maggie O’Farrell

There was not one meaning to this but multiple. It was up to the one who read it to decipher its meaning.

(Refer to SlideShow) For example, one of my classmates, Margaud wrote:

“Tears streaming.

She let go. Gone.”

This could be interpreted as:

1.She (whomever she may be) could not take the pain she felt anymore and finally decided to end her pain, and thus her life.

2.She decided that she had wasted enough tears, caring about something that should not matter, and let go of it.

3.She was finally over the pain and had moved on.

Which story-tweet should be sent out into the Twittersphere?

“Cold metal bars confine me. Never got to see the sun. Used, abused and falsely accused. You say I have the right to remain silent, What about the right to speak?”  #udontzay
