Urban Gardening

As you may have remembered, I made a logo for the Urban Gardening propagation. But now, I am actually in the service or the other one which is called Urban Gardening. I will be working with a partner to utilize one of the beds on the rooftop gardening area at our campus that will provide some service to our local community. However, at the same time, we are promoting sustainability at the campus. We are even cooling the building and trapping carbon dioxide from the air.

I will be working with Aishu, my partner. We will grow papaya, calamansi as well as some companion plants such as comfrey, alfalfa, herbs, and broad (and long) beans. We will give the fruits to “Fresh Fruit Friday” who give fruits to migrant workers.

Update:

Evaluation: 7/5/2018

Strengths:

  • Our bed has been growing really well.
  • All of our plants, except for a few beans, have been growing with their full potential.
  • Lots of baby bananas are starting to sprout near our main one.
  • Our papaya plant is short and stocky, and is bearing fruit.

Weaknesses:

  • Lots of our beans died because they couldn’t get enough sunlight.
  • Before the break we had a shade, but it was there too long.

Obstacles:

  • The fruit is taking too much time to grow.
  • Banana will take ages, and the papaya has just started to grow.
  • The dragon fruit, kiwi and beans may take even longer.

Threats:

  • Although we’ve got lots of wildlife and organisms in our soil, which may be a good thing, we have got lots of aphids as well as ants.
  • Time could also be considered as a threat.

Aim:

We are aiming to harvest our papaya for Fresh Fruit Friday—for the migrant workers.
