The Story of My Learning Starts Here

Dper’s audio and quotes on smartphones

My three quotes are :

  • ‘ I see them every day. My daughters are on their phones when they wake up, throughout the day and into the night.” – Last week quote from Slate reading
  • “We want to be engaged intellectually and we are being engaged through our phones.” – Slate reading
  • ” We lose our attention every 45 seconds.” – TED talk

Here is my group discussions on how smartphones are impacting our lives:

Also, I tried to use Compfight to upload a picture and it didn’t work even after I reloaded the page.

There were a lot of good ideas in your conversations about how phones can be beneficial or a negative thing. Your quote from the TED talk “We lose our attention every 45 seconds” was very interesting to me because you thought about how it can affect us and gave an actual example. Cell phones can be a big distraction but from another perspective people may say that they may help with doing work or research if people could resist the temptation of being distracted by another app. I think that person using the phone should be more aware that they can be easily distracted by apps like snapchat or instagram and at least try to keep their attention for a span longer than 45 seconds.
