I think that in this task, I really had to put my self-management and communication skills to use. Communication was a big part of this task because I needed to make a page not for me but for my peer. Do to this successfully, I needed to listen to what she wanted and be able to express those same ideas in the work I did for her. I also had to be clear when I was expressing what I wanted in mine as my partner will not be able to see what I had in mind. I had to self-manage myself to make sure that I was putting everything in that my client wanted, that I may not necessarily want in mine. I could have improved on my time management as sometimes I would spend more time completed one part of the page instead of focusing on the whole page.

3 Norms Of Collaboration For My New Partnership

  1. We will listen to each other’s ideas and not rule out any without giving it a chance.
  2. Encourage each other to give their ideas and participate.
  3. Stay on task and not distract each other.

Forced choice on Replika

I do feel like Replika has the potential to teach us how to be a better friend. People have said that Replika in some ways, is better than an actual friend. “In some ways, Replika is a better friend than an actual friend.” Probably not in real life but virtually it is for them. Replika is programmed to always know what to say and say ‘the right’ words which would make someone likes you more. In real life, when I text people, I often pick up the way that the text and the certain words/phrases they use. Replika users could also do this and they would carry on these to their next conversation. Doing this could really help them to become better friends. With users that use Replika a lot, it will be a lot easier for them to carry on these phrases. In the video, it was also mentioned that Replika is popular as instead of talking about themselves, Replika focuses on the person it is talking to. I also think that this is an important trait to have in order to be a good friend. While it is also good to talk about your experiences and opinions, it is also important to listen while someone is talking and not interrupting them. What improvements do you think can be made to Replika to make it better?

Final logo design

3 quotes from TED talk:

  • “There is no starting point for peace.”
  • “For me, it was really about the process.”
  • “We were listening to people and it was an amazing thing.”

Advice that we had to consider – When we all were going through the process of making the final logo, our advice was to keep it simple but not too plain. We also had to organize ourselves and communicate well as our individual logos were very different from each other’s so we needed to agree on how we wanted our final logo to look like. We all had to compromise on certain things that we had in our individual logo to make sure that there was enough space to use all of our ideas.

I really had to be self-aware and use my self-management skills when I was making my individual logo. I had to remember by myself to record everything that I was doing in the form of screenshots. I also had to be self-aware of the time and my actions in when we were all working in the group together. I had to be self-aware in the fact that I wasn’t making this logo for myself and instead for another company and I also had to be aware that not all of my ideas would be used in the final design and I had to compromise with others.

I think that my logo is a good fit for TEDX because it matches the client specification and also provides information in a simple way.

Stages of designing TEDX logo

  1. Tell us specifically how research helped this process, and which links you think you need to explore/return to in order to continue with your design For school projects, I don’t normally use canva but I am still familiar with it as there have been some times in which I have used it. Since I don’t use it very often, I had some problems with the text, the fonts and moving the pre-made shapes in the templates. I had to go to the canva support website a couple times to learn how to find specific things.
  2. What was the most complicated thing you taught yourself to do? How did you achieve it? For me, there wasn’t anything super complicated or very hard that I had to do. I had a bit of trouble with changing the font size because in the supplied text boxes, a lot of the texts sizes were set and it was a bit hard to change them. At first, it was hard to find an empty text box because all  0f the ones on the side had text written in it and the empty text box wasn’t where it normally is. I ended up having to search it up and eventually found it.
  3. Right now, what do you think your design says about both TEDx and the theme Peace by Piece? Right now, nothing in my design is really fixed or permanent and my logos are very different. As of now, all my logos are minimalist which I like.

Digital Perspectives Banner Work

https://photopeach.com/album/10pgh8u –  This is a slideshow which has the photos that I used for my banner and my final banner. I used canva to create my banner. I also tried to use other programmes such as picmonkey but I found them a lot more complicated and harder to use. In canva, I played around with the arrangement of the photos, the opacity of the photos as well as the different fonts.

Final Banner:

I think that in my banner, the principle that I used best was arrangement and a balance between the left and the right side. I could have improved on putting the text in a better place as all of it isn’t properly visible because of the dark background.

Adam Grant’s Talk

I think that I’m a matcher. I give as well as take. I believe that by giving something to someone, everyone deserves to get the same help that they gave to the person.

Out of all the programmes I used, my favourite was definitely canva. It could have been because I have used the programme before but it was the easier than all the other ones and made a lot more sense. Different tools were very easy to find and also very easy to use.

Adam Grant’s Talk

Dear Me,

If you could only remember one thing from Adam Grant’s talk is should be, how givers don’t always get what they deserve by helping people but the people benefit a lot from givers.

This is because we should try to help and give back to the givers as much as they are giving to us.

Yours,

Me

Dper’s audio and quotes on smartphones

My three quotes are :

  • ‘ I see them every day. My daughters are on their phones when they wake up, throughout the day and into the night.” – Last week quote from Slate reading
  • “We want to be engaged intellectually and we are being engaged through our phones.” – Slate reading
  • ” We lose our attention every 45 seconds.” – TED talk

Here is my group discussions on how smartphones are impacting our lives:

Also, I tried to use Compfight to upload a picture and it didn’t work even after I reloaded the page.
