We were finally able to discuss with our service partner our new activity idea, StoryMaker. The introduction of the game to our service partner went smoothly, but creating the game itself took a few weeks in preparation.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the initial singing along activity with the Down Syndrome Association could not take place, so we had to come up with a new idea. This idea that my group and I came up with, was something of a mixture between Dungeons & Dragons + Storytelling.

Our initial idea was too complicated, so we had to make adjustments throughout the process. I think I tackled LO3: Planning and initiating activities as we spent some time working on the details of the game and how we hoped it will turn out. The picture shows our SWOT analysis for how our game is turning out, and after we reflected, we changed it up a bit more to fit the DSA member’s needs.

Some difficulties we faced was how to create a game that could maintain engagement throughout the hour we have with our partners. The people who we would be working with varies in ages, abilities, and experience with working with UWC, therefore we had to alter our game to suit them. From our initial complex battle scenarios, we changed it to real-life scenarios in which they choose options to deal with and navigate their way through the challenges. We also created a promotional poster to promote our activity, and we are hoping to get members to sign up and collaborate with us.
