I have learned a lot during the MUN classes. This is my first time doing this activity and so far I have understood the procedural rules. I hope to go for an inter-school MUN soon. I find this activity exciting and very relevant in today’s world.
I have taken photography as my creative activity for CAS. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have already learned a lot more about how to adjust settings on a camera to make a photo look pleasing. I have also learned about the importance of sunlight in photography and making sure I take the sun’s relative position to me into account. I am really enjoying class and am looking forward for class today!
I visualised myself as someone who was working but also had time to travel and pursue hobbies such as photography, writing etc. I imagined myself living alone but having the support of family and a few trusted friends. I imagined having a sky terrier puppy and walking it every morning. I imagined myself as someone who was experienced and knowledgeable, calm and collected. I think that in order to achieve this I need to focus on being organised, managing my time well and paying attention to every moment and learning as much as I can. I also need to be more adventurous and risk-taking and try new things. Thinking about this made me excited for the future and what it has in store for me.
This Tuesday we had the opportunity to visit one of the sun dac centres. Visiting Sun dac, which works adults with mental disabilities, was an eyeopening and poignant experience for me. I also got some clarity on how to go about planning activities for these people. We met some of the members of this organisation and discussed what to keep in mind while planning activities. We also got to meet some of the adults who are under the care of this centre during the day. I realised that they have a wide range of disabilities. Some were able to speak better than others, some were able to comprehend us more than others etc. I am eagerly looking forward to working with these people
I have just signed up for some activities and I’m really excited about this season. I have signed up for photography and MUN as my two creative activities.I have also signed up for the after school yoga activity. I hope to finish my CAS creativity and activity requirements by the end of season two. I also want to sign up for the sailing activity if it is happening this season. In addition to this, I am also going to be part of the focus group “Because I Am” which aims at dissolving gender stereotypes. I would also like to be a part of the Initiative For Peace programme either this year or the following year.
|1||Your name and previous mathematics experience (IGCSE, MYP, FIB, any other course)
Answer: My name is Aabha Hattangadi. I have previously done ICSE mathematics till grade 10 in Mumbai, India.
|2||What might be some of the feelings that you associate with mathematics?
How do you feel about starting this course and why?
Answer: I previously had some difficulties in math but have been able to overcome them over the course of the last two years. As a subject, I have always found it challenging yet exciting. I am excited to start this course as the curriculum as well as the teaching methods seem different and interesting.
|3||How do you like to learn mathematics?
Where would you put yourself on this continuum and why:
Answer: I think I would put myself in the middle of this continuum. This is because I like to first understand concepts thoroughly for which I may require some explanations. After i have learned the concepts and methods I enjoy solving sums by myself and trying to apply what I have learned.
|4||What do you do when you are “stuck” in mathematics?
In your past experiences, how have you successfully overcome such misunderstandings?
Answer: When I am stuck in mathematics I first reread the concepts and examples given in the textbook. If after doing so I am still confused, I ask other students or my teacher for help. In the past, I have been able to overcome difficulties by doing this.
|5||Which one of the following skills is your biggest strength in learning mathematics?
Which one might be the biggest area of focus for your mathematics in the first few weeks of Grade 11?
Answer: According to me, my biggest strength in mathematics is being persistent. If I am not able to successfully solve a problem I make several other attempts and if I still don’t understand I ask someone for help. This way I don’t leave any of my doubts unsolved and I am able to understand the subject better.
My biggest area of focus for mathematics in the first few weeks would be to get organised so that I am not behind the class in anything.
|6||Is there anything else you want your maths teachers to know about you?
Answer: I am a new student to this school. I have never used laptops or other technology before for this subject and thus may require some help. I enjoy solving challenging sums and I am extremely excited for math this year.
Scrolling through Akanksha’s posts, my brain caught hold of more information than my eyes expected. I learned that documenting and posting what you have done over the years can be helpful for you as well as informative to other readers. Being a novice in the field of psychology, reading Akanksha’s post on behavioural psychology gave me a clearer idea on one of the aspects of psychology and broadened my knowledge on the subject. She also granted me to take a glimpse of her life at UWCSEA. I learned of a plethora of events and opportunities that are available here and am even more excited to become a part of this institution. Having a lack of experience in posting articles, these posts also taught me a little about the format and the content of a post. In summary, her posts were helpful to me and I learned a lot of useful information.
