My name is Snigdha Singhal, I have been studying in UWCSEA for 2 years now and have completed IGCSE CIM Mathematics. I have always found mathematics to be a very fun subject for me, I find that it never gets boring. Even though it can become quite difficult to understand at points I like to spend some time to work through those difficulties. I am excited about this course as we get to learn new topics and continue working through our math skills, but at the same time, I am also a bit nervous to begin.
On the scale, I would put myself somewhere closer to “I like to work things out for myself,” as I like to take some time and understand the question by myself, so as to gain a better understanding of it and be able to trace back my chain of thoughts later on as well. But many times I like to work with others to learn new methods of solving questions and apply them to choose the best fit for myself. Whenever I am stuck, I usually take some time to think about the possible ways to answer the question, but sometimes thinking about the question continuously isn’t really helpful. So, I move on to other questions for a while and come back to it later because that way I feel more clear and can start over. If I can’t find any solution at all, I like to approach others to guide me in the right direction.
I think that my biggest strength in learning mathematics is that I am quite optimistic towards new topics, concepts and problems. This helps me not to lose hope when I face any difficulty and work harder, staying persistent. On the other hand, something I need to focus on to improve on my mathematics would be to stay more organised and consistent with my work, as I have noticed that in the past I fall out of practising my mathematics skills. This becomes a problem since a big part of learning mathematics is practising and staying on top of all the studied topics always. This is something I would like to improve on this course.
