Koko’s Biology Adventure!

[ Lesson 1 – Making Video about Nutrition ]

One word describing the biology lesson’s emotion; WHAT?

Nutrition Is The KEY!

I will live very long if I keep my balanced diet. I don’t know if living long is good though…

[ Lesson 2  – Onion Practical ]

It was a good recap of the use of microscopes and also I got to learn the cells of Onions which I never tried before! One of the thing I found difficult was probably taking pictures…? It was tiny so It took a while and some tries before I got this perfect photo of an onion cell.

*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*

One question I still have: What is the length of the cell?

Extra Question: What kind of living things live in the onion cells?

(But maybe not answer this because I will start to hate onions.)

[Lesson 4 Diffusion through membranes]

We tested which molecules are smaller;

Tube A: Iodine solution in bag surrounded by starch solution

***********************************************************

Tube B: Starch Solution in bag surrounded by iodine solution

[Lesson 5 Hypertonic and Hypotonic]

Ok…. It sounded the same at first. Whats the difference?

Well, hypERtonic is solution that has a higher concentration of sugar or salt and low concentration of water.

While hypOtonic is solution that has a higher concentration of water and low concentration of salt or sugar.

Since water flow (Osmosis) from higher concentration to lower concentration, if you put egg in the HYPERTONIC solution, the egg will shrink because water flows out of egg to a lower concentration. Make sense??? Sort of.

But if you put the egg in a HYPOTONIC solution, the water move in to egg because the outside has higher concentration of water and lower inside the egg.

Why do they have to sound so similar????

To test the how hypertonic and hypotonic work, we put the 5 potato in a salt water solution that gradually increase the concentration of salt to see how the weight of them change before and after. The lower concentration of salt water’s potato increased its weight while the higher concentration of salt water’s potato decreased its weight.

[Lesson 6 Epidermis]

Epidermis is the outermost layer of our skin and  it creates our skin tone. It is mostly made out of squamous cell.
