Service – End of Season 3 #LO3 #LO5

This season at service, we were unable to visit the lodge due to COVID-19 becoming more dangerous in the Singapore communities. This was quite a shame for our service as we require to interact wth the persons with dementia and could not work around this social distancing policy. Instead, we completed the SWOT analysis at school and also attended a session on how to best make use of this time.

I was able to set up communication between us (students) and the staff in Apex to better understand what we can accomplish from a distance. In the image above, we outlined the indirect actions we can take, the possible advocative strategies and also certain research we can undertake. We then received feedback for this from the staff in Apex and began the tasks.

I think it was difficult to remain engaged in the service as one of the most rewarding aspects was interacting with the residents at the lodge. Working in small groups allowed us to complete these tasks more efficiently and we were able to give feedback for each other and the different tasks we each accomplished.

I hope that we can visit the lodge again after the break however given the situation, this may be unlikely especially when considering the safety of both the residents at the lodge and also the students.
